Selecting a Nondestructive Testing Method, Part IV: Radiography

ثبت نشده
چکیده

After visual and optical testing (VT), the next method of nondestructive testing (NDT) most commonly employed in industry is radiographic testing. Also simply referred to as radiography, it is perhaps the most versatile of the nondestructive testing methods.[1] The basic radiographic process in use today is in large part still the same as it was when it was introduced in the late 1800s. Radiography uses radiation energy to penetrate solid objects in order to assess variations in thickness or density. The second part of the process involves capturing a shadow image of the component being inspected on film using procedures similar to those that technicians used when the technology was first developed. Identifying density differences on an X-ray, which indicate flaws or cracks, is still the foundation of radiographic analysis.

http://ammtiac.alionscience.com The AMMTIAC Quarterly, Volume 1, Number 3 INTRODUCTION Visual inspection is by far the most common nondestructive testing (NDT) technique [1]. When attempting to determine the soundness of any part or specimen for its intended application, visual inspection is normally the first step in the examination process. Generally, almost any specimen can be visually exami...

Nondestructive Testing and Evaluation of Steel Bridges

Nondestructive evaluation (NDE) is a means of evaluating structural components without damaging them. It can be used to evaluate structural systems, as well as specific structural components. Nondestructive testing is particularly useful for evaluating inservice bridges, since the bridges can remain in tact and open to traffic during the inspection and evaluation period. The NDE methods discuss...

Design of Nondestructive System for Hardness of Carbonitrided Steel Parts ‎Using Eddy Current Testing Method: Case study on the Tappet Parts

In this paper, a non-destructive eddy current test system was designed to evaluate the surface hardness of the carbonitrided steel parts. For this purpose, various samples of the tappet were used after the surface hardening and grinding operations as control samples and, if necessary, were subjected to destructive and non-destructive tests. Microstructural studies were performed with a microsco...
